Meet our Mobile Veterinarians

Dr. Scarzella and Dr. Arthur are Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Veterinarians through the Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy. This provides training to help provide the smoothest transition for pets and their families.

Dr. Gina Scarzella

Gina started on her veterinary journey in 2011 after graduating from St. Matthew’s University on Grand Cayman. Currently, she works as an emergency Veterinarian at Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral in Wilmington. Her passion for helping animals ignited at a young age, setting her on the path to becoming a veterinarian.

Initially focusing on equine medicine, Gina's love for horses persisted, but she discovered that the quality of life equine medicine provided didn't align with her aspirations. Recognizing the need for work-life balance and avenues to manage stress in private practice, she transitioned to small animal private practice. Over eight years at Carolina Beach and College Road Animal Hospitals, she honed her skills and cherished the relationships with her clients. It was during this time that Gina recognized the need for at-home euthanasia services, enabling clients to bid farewell to their beloved pets in a manner of their choosing – perhaps on their parent’s bed or surrounded by family in the comfort of their living room.

At College Road Animal Hospital, Gina met Ashton, a friend who sparked her interest in veterinary social work. Together, they brainstormed ways to provide veterinary practices access to a social worker, leading Gina to obtain a Veterinary Human Support Certificate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. This certification expanded her knowledge of veterinary social work and equipped her with invaluable tools to excel in veterinary medicine. Gina played a pivotal role in bringing a full-time veterinary social worker to Eastern Carolina Veterinary Referral and co-teaches a veterinary social work elective at UNCW.

Beyond her clinical work, Gina co-founded A Pawsitive Mission, a program of Paws-ability, a nonprofit that offers funding for emergent veterinary medical care to pet parents in New Hanover County.

In-home euthanasia holds a special place in her heart, as she understands the significance of offering pets peace in their last moments. Following the passing of Dr. Doffermyre, "Dr. D," Gina has taken on the responsibility of providing the same level of compassion to pet parents during their most vulnerable moments. Gina is eager to assist pet parents in helping their beloved companions cross the rainbow bridge and provide them with support.

When not saving pets and supporting their families, Gina and her husband, David, enjoy traveling, anything to do with the outdoors, gardening, and caring for their numerous rescued pets.

MEET DR. LINDSEY ARTHUR

Dr. Lindsey is from south central Virginia and a proud Virginia Tech graduate. She originally practiced as an equine veterinarian, but now feels incredibly blessed to serve the Wilmington area by providing peaceful, compassionate end-of-life care for beloved pets. Her goal is to ensure that every pet can pass on surrounded by love and comfort, with their family by their side during their final moments.

When she’s not helping families say goodbye to their furry companions, she enjoys spending time at home working on projects, creating new memories with her family, and playing with her two dogs, Max and Sullivan. She feels that it is an honor to be part of such a meaningful experience in the lives of pets and their owners.
